Park Isle Marine of Vancouver Island
is often associated with superb mega-Passagemakers. This latest design from Gregory C. Marshall
of Victoria, B.C. addresses the increasing demand facing Park Isle for a more affordable
“pocket Park Isle.” Unlike previous Park Isle vessels, this yacht is based on a semi-displacement
hull form appropriate for a solid 14 knot top end. As Roy Parkinson of Park Isle puts it,
“it is nice to have a dream of taking a couple of years off and cruising around the world,
but the reality is that most of us have kids, a demanding job, and at best, enough time
for a two week jaunt up the coast.”
The core philosophies of the larger Park Isle ships;
superb sea-keeping, dependable systems, exquisite construction, 2000 N.M range, and stand up engine room,
were carried over by Marshall in the development of the 42’. Starting with the overall design,
Marshall chose a plum bowed semi-displacement hull form to increase waterline length and interior volume.
Forward, the entry is very fine with a dramatic flare to increase buoyancy rapidly and keep the vessel dry.
The hull is extended under the swim platform to further extend the waterline without extending
overall length.
On the superstructure, Marshall chose
a reverse windshield for optimum visibility and minimum glare. An added advantage is that
in most conditions the windshield wipers aren’t required. Weather decks are wide with high bulwarks
for maximum safety. All scuppers are large to evacuate water efficiently and decks are low
for easy dockside access.
Inside the vessel, the main salon
comfortably seats six for dining and eight for cocktails. Windows are large thermopane safety plate
with 3/8” outside plate and 1/4” inside plate, which virtually eliminates condensation,
and reduces noise transmission.
The galley is fully equipped and laid out
to provide maximum efficiency in both seaway and cocktail mode. Latches throughout are locking
and all storage is divided to provide secure provisioning for long trips.
Up a couple of steps from the main salon
is the pilothouse with virtually 360° visibility with access doors to the decks without
ducking or climbing. The control console is large for the full array of goodies,
and there is even a proper chart table for full sized charts. The pilot bench is aft
and is proper length and width to serve as a comfortable watch berth.
Below decks forward are two good staterooms.
The master stateroom forward contains a queen sized berth and lots of storage.
Double hatches on the trunk and large portlights ensure superb light and ventilation.
The guest stateroom on the port side
can be configured with either a queen sized berth or twins as shown, and both the guest stateroom
and the owner’s stateroom share a large head on the starboard side. The guest stateroom
could also be configured as an optional utility room with washer dryer, deep freeze
and additional storage.
The engineroom has wing tanks port
and starboard totaling 1500 U.S.G of Diesel. At the aft end of the engineroom
is a 4’ x 6’ portion that has full 6’-6” headroom. Standard power is a caterpillar 3304
naturally aspirated diesel offering 165 BHP. Additional power options can be accommodated
to offer higher speeds.

Principal
Characteristics:
The hulls, decks
and cabin structures are vacuum infused with vinylester resin and
unidirectional glass fibres. When core is used in our laminates,
we use ATC Corecel triple cut within our infused laminate. There are
generous overlaps at all edges of material runs, with the stem and keel
having double hull laminates. Being that we use vinylester resin for
vacuum infusion, the risk of osmosis has been eliminated.
The deck and
cabin structure is cored with high density foam which provides strength
and rigidity as well as provides an insulating factor. (Unlike wood
or Balsa core the foam does not break down or rot over time.)
